Somerville artist Emily Garfield is best known for creating intricate maps of imaginary places that explore the origins of cities and the function of maps themselves. She has been involved in Somerville arts as the 2014 coordinator for Somerville Open Studios (SOS) and as a board member for both SOS and Artisan's Asylum.
Last Sunday, Emily operated a collaborative mapmaking booth at the SomerStreets Monster Mashed Up celebration where residents of all ages came together to express their interpretations of maps both real and imagined, including many views of Somerville and its residents.
Their creation is being featured through the end of October at the new Workbar Union at 31 Union Square where residents can enjoy it while taking advantage of Somerville’s newest coworking space. Workbar Union is offering free use of its facility through Friday October 23rd.
